Donations

We at Home Start are always grateful for donations. Our management expenses remain at or below 15%, which is near the lower end of the range for similar charities. The majority of all donations are applied directly to program expenses.

Given recent disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the recent economic downturn, grant monies have been particularly difficult to obtain. While we always recommend discussing your donation with tax professionals, donations to Home Start are tax deductible. We gladly accept bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, gifts of life insurance and or retirement assets.

Please contact us and we will be happy to discuss our current donation needs with you, and provide our federal tax identification number.

We greatly appreciate financial contributions, including gift cards for grocery, discount, department, and home improvement stores.

We ask that if you are considering a financial donation and are employed by a corporation, to review your individual corporate policies and determine if your employer matches your donations.

Donations of Goods

Please check our wish list or contact us before dropping off your donation of goods. Unfortunately, with our limited storage space, we do not always have room to take your kind donation immediately, but will make every effort to do so. Our most needed items are: cleaning supplies; toiletries/personal items; diapers, including Toddler Pull-Ups and Little Swimmers; baby formula, including soy formula; and paper products, including paper towels, toilet paper, and facial tissue.

We do accept vehicle donations on a limited basis. If you have a vehicle that is in good condition that would be an acceptable vehicle for a resident or client, please contact us.

We also accept, space permitting, furniture for clients moving into permanent housing upon graduation. Please contact us if you would like to make a furniture donation.
